Omaha
Omaha Poker is one of the most popular games played today at online casinos and poker rooms. There are two types of Omaha Poker games. There is Omaha High and Omaha Hi/Lo.
Omaha High is played with the idea of holding the highest set of cards to claim the pot whereas with Omaha Hi/Lo or Omaha 8, you actually get two chances to win. Here the player who holds the highest and the lowest set of cards split the pot as winnings. Omaha Poker Hi/Lo is the most popular out of the two and you will find more players playing this game than Omaha High.
52 Card are played with in either of these games. An Ace is referred to as a “bullet” while the King is known as a “cowboy”. Queen to Three have no specific names and are called by the face value of the card whereas Two is known as a “deuce’ or a “duck”.
At the beginning of each game, two players on the left side of the dealer will have to post blind bets. The players immediately to the left of the player is called the “small blind” whereas the player on the left of that player will post the “big blind”. Now the game can begin.
Each player is now dealt 4 cards “hole cards”, with three community cards (flop) placed face up on the table. A round of betting follows starting with the player to the left of the “big blind” where players can either fold, raise or check.
A forth (turn) and fifth (river) community cards are then placed on the table with betting rounds in between each card being placed. This is now the time for the “showdown” where all cards are now laid face up on the table for all players to see.
To win a game of Omaha Hi/Lo or Omaha Hi, three cards from the players hole cards must be used in conjunction with two cards from the community cards.
Omaha Hi/Lo and Omaha Hi popularity is increasing in popularity on a daily basis, it is an easy game to understand and a game that normally has reasonably low wagering requirements.
